Updating your membership prices

As your business grows, you may want to increase the price of a membership. This article explains how price changes work in Classta — both for new clients and for clients who have already subscribed at the old price.

The short version

  • New clients who sign up after you change the price will automatically pay the new price.
  • Existing clients who are already subscribed will keep paying the price they originally signed up at — their price does not change automatically.

This is intentional: no existing member is ever charged a higher amount without you deciding to make that change and notifying them.

How to change the price for new clients

  1. Go to your admin dashboard.
  2. Click the Memberships tab.
  3. Find the membership you want to update and click the Edit button (the pencil icon) on its card.
  4. In the Edit Membership window, change the Price field.
  5. Click Update to save.

That's it. From this point on, anyone who subscribes will be charged the new price. You don't need to do anything else.

What happens to existing subscribers

Clients who already have an active subscription will continue to be billed at their original price. Changing the membership price in Classta does not change what they pay.

If you're happy for existing members to stay on their current price and only charge new members the higher rate, there's nothing more to do.

Increasing the price for existing subscribers

If you want your existing members to move to the new price as well, this needs to be done directly in your Stripe dashboard, where their subscriptions are managed. In Stripe you can:

  1. Update a subscription to the new price — either individually, or using Stripe's bulk price-migration tool.
  2. Choose when the new price takes effect (for example, at the member's next renewal).
  3. Decide whether to apply proration.

Important: give your members notice

Before increasing the price for existing subscribers, always let them know in advance. This is good practice, and in many regions it's a legal requirement to give notice before raising the price of an existing subscription.

A common, low-friction approach is:

  • Put the new price live for new members now.
  • Give existing members plenty of notice (for example, one to two months) before moving them onto the new rate.
