Sync GoCardless direct debit subscriptions to Classta memberships
If you already take membership payments by Direct Debit in GoCardless, Classta can copy those subscribers into your Classta memberships and keep their access up to date.
You keep creating and managing Direct Debit in GoCardless. Classta only reads that account and mirrors who should have access to classes.
What Classta does
- Shows your active GoCardless subscriptions, grouped by name, price, and how often they are charged.
- Lets you match each group to a Classta membership.
- Adds those people to the membership so they can book classes.
- Checks GoCardless regularly after that. New people on a matched subscription are added. If a subscription is cancelled or it finishes, their Classta membership ends.
People who join and pay by card still do that in Classta with Stripe. Direct Debit and card memberships can sit side by side.
What stays in GoCardless
Classta does not set up Direct Debit, and it does not create, change, or cancel GoCardless subscriptions.
To put someone on Direct Debit, add them in GoCardless as you do today: a customer, a mandate, and a subscription. A customer on their own is not enough. Classta only syncs subscriptions.
Cancelling someone’s Direct Debit is also done in GoCardless. The next sync ends their Classta membership.
Connect GoCardless
- In GoCardless, open Developers, then API Settings.
- Click the 'Create' button at the top and choose 'Access Token'. Give it a name e.g. 'Classta' and choose 'Read Only' then click 'Create Access Token'. Classta can see your subscriptions with this token. It cannot take payments or change anything in GoCardless.
- Copy the new access token to the clipboard. You only get to see it once.
- In Classta, open Settings, then Payment Settings, and find GoCardless membership sync.
- Choose Live for your real GoCardless account, or Sandbox if you are testing.
- Paste the token and click Connect GoCardless.
Match subscriptions to memberships
- Open the Memberships tab.
- Open the GoCardless subscriptions section at the top.
- For each price, choose the Classta membership it should join, or choose Ignore.
- Click Save and sync.
After that, Classta keeps checking GoCardless for you. You can open this section and sync again whenever you want an update straight away.
If someone is already a member
Classta will not overwrite someone who already has a membership under the same email address. Their name is shown in the sync result so you can decide what to do.
Failed payments and paused subscriptions
One failed Direct Debit payment does not remove access. GoCardless retries those, and Classta shows the failure so you can follow it up.
Access ends when the GoCardless subscription is cancelled or it finishes.
If a subscription is paused in GoCardless, Classta marks that membership as past due. Whether they can still book depends on the settings for that membership.
Disconnecting
Disconnecting GoCardless stops the sync. People already added stay on their membership. Classta will no longer hear about new subscribers or cancellations until you connect again.
